Unravelling Vein

In Unravelling Vein, at the Sferisterio in Santarcangelo, the artist stages the city as a sentient body. Its underground galleries, tunnels and narrow streets become a system of veins and arteries beneath the sandy soil. Wrapped in long cords that snake across the ground like a circulatory network, her body moves in cycles of tightening and release, tracing a fragile line between inside and outside, underground and surface.
Through this corporeal mapping, the work recalls the city’s paleo-Christian, subterranean origins and brings them back into the present as a living, pulsing anatomy. The action unfolds as a continuous raveling and unraveling, until the body can no longer loosen itself and remains as a single condensed knot – a final image of shared vulnerability and beginning, “a knot, flesh intertwined, called origin.”
